Automatically add selected tag from tag pane to new note
When I've already clicked on a tag on the left bar, adding a new note should take that tag. This could be achieved without hurting existing functionality with a triangle next to the current New note button that shows a button that says "New note with tag"

Bill AdminWe have gone back and forth on this over time, but current thinking is that Jots mode is a means by which this is possible, and for notes mode we want to allow new notes to be created without default context that might need to get undone.

Lucian AdminHey Revanth!
We've revised tag propagation in Amplenote. You can use the "[[~" syntax when linking to a new note. Also you can use the Ctrl-Shift-[ hotkey over a text selection to turn into a new note and add the current note's tasks. For other options check out the blog post:

Mark LopezHi. Why not add a keyboard shortcut for new note with tag.
Cmd+shift+alt+n maybe?
My workflow involves putting in a lot of notes with the same tag and this kinda breaks it. -

Lucian Admin@Bill - since the initial post was about auto-tagging for note creation using the "New Note" button, I think we could mark this request as "Under Consideration" and have some more votes coming in. Meanwhile, my vote would be to implement the Cmd+Shift+Alt+N as Mark suggested since it seems like an easy one to do and would complement the recent note linking improvements nicely.

Bill AdminThe blessed path to create notes that possess a certain tag is to use Jots mode. Any note created when a tag is selected will automatically assume the tag that the user had chosen. This is my preferred path to creating notes when I'm working in the context of a particular project.

StefanJots mode is a good idea, I'll give that a try. But the New Note button is pretty prominent, and I really agree that it too should take on the tags that are currently selected in the hierarchy. Fine if this is an option like the suggested triangle on the button.

JustinI'd like to suggest considering this, too.
1
My workflow is:
- I'm working on my "House Hunting" project, which I have a tag set up as #projects/house-hunting
- I have the #projects/house-hunting tag selected on the side-bar, so I can see my "House Hunting Tasks" note, my "Potential Listings" note, etc.
- I realize I need to figure out my budget, so I want to add a "House Budgeting Calculations" note with the tag #projects/house-hunting
Right now I have to either:
1. Ctl-Alt-N to create a new note. This deselects the #projects/house-hunting so I have to re-click the tag field and remember the tag name, then re-click the tag in the side bar.
2. Click Jot mode, which deselects the tag in the sidebar and also prevents me from editing the title of my new note. So this actually doesn't work.
3. Create the note by linking to it from one of my existing notes and inheriting the tag. To do this I'd probably end up creating an Index note, which seems to be reinventing the sidebar functionality. -

benOne way to work within the system as it is right now is to just highlight the selected tag name in the search field, ctrl-c copy it, click new note, then paste the tag into the note tags.
1
Word of caution: The search field appends a space after the tag name so be careful to remove it, or not copy it in the first place, otherwise when you paste it into the tags, amplenote will convert it to a trailing "dash".
Maybe not the perfect solution but it does prevent you from losing your place.
