Bill AdminI think there's a bit too much room for undesirable behavior if we simply write a regex for "on [date]", but it is on our long-term list to implement the ability to set a due date for any task inline, probably through syntax like !due:friday. If you'd like to create a voting item for that, it could accelerate its implementation with popular support.

Skyler ReevesI wonder if it causes much of an issue for users of apps that use NLP to do this like Todoist, Akiflow, etc. I was initially surprised that Amplenote didn't have this feature and came here to check on its status. I understand why you aren't implementing it though and appreciate you marking it as "Not Planned" so I can disqualify myself as a good fit for the product.

Lucian AdminHey Skyler! While editing a task in Amplenote, you can type "!start", which opens a menu that lets you set a start date for you task. In this menu, you can use NLP to set the start date with a lot of flexibility.
Check out the page on Task Commands for more info: https://www.amplenote.com/help/task_commands_menu
And check out the page on date calculation for examples of words that are recognized by the date/time picker: https://www.amplenote.com/help/keyboard_shortcuts_and_markdown_syntax_examples#Date_and_time_calculation_Under-documented
Let me know if you have any other questions. -

JLJust a thought, but I really love how Notion uses the @ syntax for everything, you can do a "@today" or "@last friday" (it opens a context menu where you can select the right input for that syntax) and it creates a relative reference to the date it was typed which shows it as a relative day until X amount of days have passed after which it converts to a date. Amplenote could use their own syntax with the exclamation point (e.g. !today and maybe trigger it with something like /\s![\w}\d]+/).
I would really love this feature in other parts of the notes too and not just in the tasks
