Searching Date using DD-MM-YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY

I would like to go back to dates quickly using the search function and quick open functionality.
It would be great if both formats would be implemented:

DD-MM-YYYY
DD/MM/YYYY

Almost anything is better than the barmy US mmddyy. When there is an International Standard,the ISO yyyy-mm-dd, why not at least offer it?
