Better ways to view note backlinks section (show backlinks in peek viewer)
Currently, note backlinks live on the bottom of the note. Users must scroll through the entire note to view them. Backlinks are also not viewable in peek view.
This leads to a problem when writing a note by referring to its backlinks. E.g. : I capture notes from books I'm reading in daily-jots, which becomes backlinks in the note for that book. When I write a review/summary for that book, I have to scroll between the note body and backlinks to reference my jot notes, which slows me down.
A workaround is to open the note in peek view, but this means the main workspace is no longer in the center of the screen. Filtering backlinks is an imperfect solution, since all my backlinks are chronological, rather than sorted by tag.
Two suggestions to address this::
- Separate scrollbars for note body and backlinks section.
- Allow viewing of backlinks in peek viewer.

Kidd MergedAs we are using inline tags. It would be nice to adjust the size of the backlinks window vs the main body, Or even consider enabling us to show only backlinks with the ability to not only filter by tags but sorting as well.

Lucian Admin MergedThanks for your request Kidd. A resizable backlinks section sounds like a good idea. Expect some improvements in that area soon, as we launch Note Reference filtering in Notes View sometime soon.

Lucian AdminHey Colin, this has been on my wishlist for a while too. Separate scrollbars is something the team generally wants to avoid, but I'm positive we can find a solution that feels good. Thanks for the suggestion!

Colin ChanThanks Lucian! Personally I’d love the ability to drag the backlinks section to the peek viewer, or give an option to view it side-by-side with the main note.

TinkerOne idea. The backlinks section can be hidden by default but a mini bar is shown all the time. If we want to see the backlinks simply click to expand. Instead of the current scroll down all the way down approach, which means the backlinks are always displayed, annoying for small notes which always displays the backlinks even though you don't want to see them.
This way the backlinks section can take up more vertical space once expanded.
User is usually interested in either backlinks or main content, rarely both at once. So displaying both at once with non adjustable width means less viewing space for both.
Cleaner layout, not having distracting backlinks being displayed while viewing the main text body.
If there's a worry user's won't know backlinks exist in the note, the mini bar can show a count of available backlinks, completed tasks etc. -

Aaron MergedOpening a note's incoming and outgoing links in a graph view on the peak viewer occupies the main notes tab. This means your current location in a note and the current note you are working on is lost... temporarily.
I would rather see a list of backlinks in the peak viewer like I can see the backlinks in the backlink section of a main note. -

DanWould love it if backlinks and their content was visible in the peek viewer, like they are in the full note viewer.
